It does import them. It'll keep them in a folder named "originals"

At least this is how iPhoto5 has done for my RAW files.

See, iPhoto doesn't have true RAW support. What it does it process the RAW files and you work with that processed jpeg.

EEck. Let me resize that picture. :o

when i drag a .cr2 RAW file from my rebel XT into iPhoto i get this error message:

Unreadable Files: 1
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).

Like I said, iPhoto doesn't really support RAW files so I'm not surprised you're getting that error. That's something to be expected.

I didn't understand that you actually wanted to work with the RAW file in iPhoto. You're going to have to get another app to do that. I use an app called Capture One to process the RAW files. I export them into TIFF files and then work with them on another app.

ahh ok. but just to save and view them i should manually create that folder called originals?

No. When you import your RAW files using iPhoto's own import process, it'll create a folder called "originals" where it'll store the RAW files. This files are untouched at all times. What you see in your library are jpegs that iPhoto made out of the RAW files. You cannot do anything involving RAW files at all with iPhoto except for taking the pictures out of your camera and getting them into your computer. That is all that iPhoto does.

Am I explaining myself? :p

I don't have a XT and never work with iPhoto but the RAW contains a JPEG file already. I think!!!

iPhot supports the 20D and a few other previous models but it doesn't support the Rebel XT, yet. That could be the reason you're having problems importing your raw files from the XT.

thats probably why... as deedas was helping me, but has a 20D!

Oh wow! I didn't know the XT wasn't supported. I don't see why it wouldn't though. It creates .cr2 just like the 20D. What would stop iPhoto from importing them even if its from a card reader?

*shrugs*

Oh well, sorry I couldn't help.

The way I understand it, the 20D .cr2 files are different from the XT .cr2 files. The latest version of Photoshop CS Camera Raw will handle 20D RAW files but will not handle XT RAWs.

You would think that any file with a .cr2 extension would be readable by a .cr2 enabled program - but noooooooooo, now we've got different .cr2 files to contend with.

I'm a big fan of progress but am really tired of waiting for program updates to catch up with my hardware.
