i have my canon rebel xsi.. and all i have is the kit lens..but i find it very able unless i have to zoom very close in... but eventhen..its high enough mp i can just zoom and crop and im happy with the results.
but what settings should i use to get the best shots with the peices i have?
i found that between 0"8 and f25 and 2" and f25 seem to work ok with lights in the dark at home.
but what should i ideally have it set on where it gets nice shots of the kapow?

I did some fireworks the other night at about 5seconds f11. You could start from that point and play with it.

Here's a link that discusses fireworks photography.

I've had success using a long exposure, wireless trigger, low ISO, and an F stop somewhere around F10. Depends on whether it's dusk or dark, and the look you're trying to get.

Fireworks artew very easy to shoot.
1. Camera on tripod
2. Lens focused to infinity and switched to MF
3. Set ISO to 100
4. Set camera to M
5. Set shutter to "bulb"
6. Set Aperture to f/11
7. Use cable realse if you have one to fire shutter if not its harder but you can press and hold shutter release on camera
8. Hold shutter open for as lond as the firework you are trying to capture
Most of the time the exposure will be between 2 to 5 seconds
Have fun :)
