A80 - Flash not working

Hi all.

I have an A80 - about 2 month out of warranty. :cry:

The camera got very wet, and now the flash doesn't fire. If the flash is in Auto mode, the camera won't take a picture. I have to manually turn off the flash.

Any suggestions (other than take it to a camera repair place) ? I have repaired the case of the camera previously - and am confident of dismantling. Last time I was told it would cost me $AU 200.00 to get a *quote* for the repairs. I repaired it myself for approx $UA 23.00. I don't beleive the camera is worth enough to bother paying $200.00 for a quote - let alone paying for the repairs. So I'm looking for tips on how to repair/what to look for when i pull it apart.

Another thing I forgot to add -- I have done a 'reset' on the settings - but I have been fiddling about with the settings so it *might* be just that I have screwed something up in the configuration.

Chances are the whole flash unit will need to be replaced. Since Canon's digicams are designed in modular form, you should be able to buy just the flash unit and replace it yourself.

The phone # for Canon Parts NJ is floating around this forum in a few places....
