View Full Version : Raw Batch Conversions - - Why?

Hi as a fairly new convert to digital photography I have realised the importance of the ability to use the Raw format. However I keep reading threads expressing how well this or that program allows Batch conversions.

My question is, if the idea of using Raw is to always enable me to determine the ultimate setting for each individual shot: won't I just throw all of this advantage away by allowing a program to treat every picture in a batch the same.

Please let me know if I am confused here, it won't be for the first (or last time) I am sure.

This is a workflow issue really. What you usually do is go thru each photo and change the settings, then run the batch process. A lot of the time you can apply similar settings to a group of photos - for example you might have 10 photos taken in one place, and all need to be a bit brighter or have a color cast removed. PS CS1/2 let you change the settings on one and apply the settings to all of the group.

This book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/032127878X/qid=1113466778/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-3047575-5896047?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) is invaluable for people working with RAW. Even better, wait for the CS2 version of the book, there are enough changes to make it worthwhile.

Hope that helps.

I've learned a heck of a lot very quickly here, thanks to the many knowledgable members, I like to help others if I can. "Paying it forward" so to speak.
