Hello

I am just starting to play with RAW files from my S70. There is quite clearly a great deal of difference between the converted files using the Canon software and the CS converter. Without tweaking anything the CS images are much warmer looking - less blue. The Canon conversions are much sharper, even if I push the CS sharpening to the right.

Which converter do the experts prefer - Canon or CS?

Any other comments most welcome

Regards

Geoffrey

All of the converters interpret the files a little differently - it is in the adjustments made using the tools that the benefits of the converters are apparent. Which converter is best is a matter of personal opinion and all seem to do certain things well. Search for other threads on the subject and you can get a feel for them. The only way to realize their potential is to use them and get familiar with the controls.

DPP's default probably appears better than the others since it is Canon's format - but the interface and controls are not as intuitive or easy to use as the other converters. Once you fiddle with the others you can establish a default that is a better starting point than the one initially set in the software. I go back and forth about whichi is my favorite but I keep coming back to the convenience and consistency of the PS converter as my favorite. But there are a lot of proponents of RawShooter these days - it is a great free converter that is also worth a try.

Ultimately you have to decide which converter works best for you. Have fun!!
