DPP 3.6.2 crashes every time -unusable

I am on a mac G5 PPC and 10.4.11 with DPP 3.6.2

I cannot use DPP, it just hangs as soon as I try to do anything with it

any thoughts anyone?

Yes it starts up and trashing the .plist was the first thing I treid;)

Sorry, on a PC, can't help. But have you tried posting this in the Computer subforum of this forum? The concentration of computer geeks may be a little denser in there. Hope that helps a little.

Mac OS 10.4.11 on G5 dual PPC 6GB RAM

Opens fine. I resize window, and browse to RAW_IN folder
First tie I did this te beachball spun but then it was creating thumbs ( large folder) so I left it and it was usable after awhile.

Decided to change prefs. set to Wide Gamut and a few other bits and pieces.
Hung with beachball

Tried force quitting and relaunched. Resized window again, prefs again etc. HUNG
forced quit
trashed prefs restarted + relaunched, opens ok but hangs soon after
Activity monitor says zero activity for DPP

It was doing quite well until it got about half way scrolling to create and get through the thumbs (small) - slowly got slower and slower with the beachball taking longer and longer then finally CRASH

DPP system requirements are OSX 10.4 or 10.5, PPC G4, G5, or Intel processor, minimum 1 GB RAM, and monitor with resolution of 1024x768 or more and colors of thousands or more. Am I the only one who thinks this is just a wee bit optimistic for a 5D II. Oh there is an asterisk that recommends Core2 Duo or better. :rolleyes:

It is looks like a memory issue. How much HD space do you have left? How many images in the folder that you are opening? Put a few images in a separate folder and try the same things that caused the crash. If this runs, then you are most likely running out of memory considering the size of 5DII files and the extremely large amount of data the machine is trying to process.


To attempt recovery:
Verify your HD. Run Disk Utility. Select the startup HD in the left panel. On the bottom of the right panel click "Verify Disk" and wait. This will tell you if any part of you system was corrupted. If the disk does need repaired, you will need to start up with the Install Disk and run Disk Utility from the Menu Bar. If no HD repair is needed, try repairing permissions by clicking on "Repair Disk Permissions".

You also need to check the physical memory. Most brand computers (dell, hp, etc) have pre-boot diagnostic modes that can check all system hardware (including RAM, HDDs, CD/DVD, graphics cards, etc), so I don't see why apple would not include something similar. If not, there should be plenty of free tools out there that do exactly that (and if there are none for OSX, there are plenty for linux, and you can just make a live-disk and use those programs from a flash drive)

110 GB free on HD+6GB RAM - yes there is an untility to check RAM but I have done that before and it's OK and Ps never glitches as it would i expect if there weere ram probs (it's a long boring process which I hate)

3000 images in that folder
Lightroom or Bridge have no problems with this folder
and yes I have tried riuning DPP with no other programs running;)

Disk already verified and permissions repaired before last attempts to use it;)
