I wasn't sure if this type of photo belongs in the Urban Life catagory or in the Sports section. It does say "anything that goes fast" in the sports discription. This plane will get up to mach .83 and landing one at Washington National or Philly can be sporting. Maybe the sports section is correct.

Anyhow, I have a similar thread with different pics running in the urban life section. We'll see which gets more hits :D .

Great pics. Love aircraft pics. I've take so many pics from CLT that I probably have one of you flying out and don't even know it.

Since it's too warm for de-icing, I assume the spraying is for giving the aircraft a bath. Is that right? Nice shots.

Whoops. I should have read the caption. I guess it was de-icing. Sorry about that.

Most companies do what is call dry washing a aircraft now. Here the short version, wax on, wax off. Some times they pressure wash the planes.

On some aircraft, even though the temperature is above freezing the wings will still need to be deiced prior to departure. Cold soaked fuel in the wings can cause frost to form after the plane lands. Very common on MD-80's.

Thanks for all the comments.

Yes, it was cold enough to deice in Burlington. Winter lasts a long time up there.

My company is too broke to even bother washing planes. I think the only washing our planes get is from the rain. I get my best airplane pics the day after a big low pressure system moves through our route structure. It's the only time all the planes are looking fresh and shiny. Rain at 380 mph does a good job washing off smashed bugs.

Jetmech,

Do you live in CLT? Work at the airport? Hopefully you aren't being affected by the US Airways bankrupcy. Maybe I'll see you around sometime.

Yes I live in CLT and work at the airport. I'm a mechanic on the big yellow freighter you see parked on the cargo ramp. Not being affected US Airways problems, but I know a lot of others that are. We have a company that washes our 727's here in CLT. The cargo ramp is where I take most of my pictures since it is next to 36R/18L. I enjoyed the pictures from your web page.

I like these shots alot. The colors are excellent and I like the third shot the most. It is a nice capture of old and new styles planes.
