Just wanted to get input from you all on recommendations for a DSLR. I mainly want to use it for vacation and general all around photography. I liked the size of the 20D, but must admit I know very little of the DSLR's?
Asking this question while searching the forum on the subject.
Looking at a budget of about 500 US.

With a US $500 budget, even used DSLR equipment will cost more than what you want to spend. You need to look closely at a good point-and-shoot camera such as the Canon SX10 IS. (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/SX10IS/SX10ISA.HTM) That is a very good, very versatile camera which will suit your needs and not consume your entire budget, and is readily available at thousands of stores.

Is your 20D not doing something for you?
You could upgrade to a 30D and keep your 20D as a backup body. Or if you sell your 20D you might be able to fund a T1i.

As I mentioned, I have not researched this yet. I was hoping that there might be something avail used for about 500. I actually have 300D, but like the 20D in regards to size. Thanks for the replies though.

I love my 30D. I paid $450 (CAD). You should definatly be able to find a used one under $500. Heck you might have money left over for a 18-55 IS. If you don't mind the smaller screen size, the 20D is pretty much the same camera and will cost you even less. Can't go wrong with any of the xxD series- 20d/30d will be a huge improvement over 300D.

There isn't a lot of difference between the 20D and 30D. Most notible would be a larger LCD on the 30D. Clean copies seem to run around $450-600 on the used market. Both are still capable cameras and a modest cost (compared to other dslr's).
I understand why you liked the size of the 20D. I've got kind of big hands and its uncomfortable for me to hold a smaller camera body too. I had to add a grip to the 30D for it to be comfortable to hand hold.

Benefits of 30D over 20D - larger lcd and spot metering. Otherwise they're pretty much identical. I have one of each and they are great, solid camera bodies.
