Hi,

I just got a 100-400 IS L and thinking of replacing my 70-200 f/4 with something else. I used 70-200 mainly for nature/wildlife before and found it too short. Thinking about getting a portrait lens from either of the following: 85/1.8, 100/2, 135/SF 2.8 (L is out of budget). I had a 50/1.8 and absolutely love it for indoor portraits.

I would like to use the new prime lens for some event/show type of situation. Zoom is convinient there but f/4 often too slow.

Your thoughts ?

Thanks

Perry

If you like the 50mm F1.8 then your best options are 50mm F1.4 or the 85mm F1.8. With the 135mm you'd have to be a pretty good way back from people to take their picture.

the 85 f1.8 is a very nice lens but a bit long indoor's for portrait 136mm on a 20d.

Thanks, Tim. I seems to like get close to the subject (my 2 year old son) when shooting with 50/1.8 either indoor or outdoor as I like to have head/shoulder shot. In that sense I guess I actually prefer something longer. 135mm might be a bit too long for portrait though but it would be good for events work ?

Thanks, gyrob. This new prime will be mainly used for outdoor portraits/events as I'm well covered by 50/1.8 indoor.
