Well, it would sound like I am duplicating a sub-section here. In the actual Marco sharing section of this forum, I have no chance against the DSLR with the macro lenses. So I have to work with what the SX10 can delivery thru my eyes.

Here are my humble works. (edited via Picasa 3)

Taken from the garden early Sat morning.

Hawaiiboy - Just love that second one! Crispy-clear on the flower petals - nice colours - and the droplets, too... Even some of that "bokeh" effect - what are you up to - trying to scare the DSLR-folk...? :)

Regards, Dave.

Hi Lensmen,

Which do you think is better: Picasa 3 or Photoshop?

Love your pics, they are excellent!

Hi Tigs

Honestly, Picasa 3 is FREE from Google. Very simple to use and had been at it for about 3 -4 years (i think) and gets me 90% of the stuff that i need.

PhotoShop CS4 is very good and has far more features than P3. But tell me that you are gonna spend $700 for a copy ? Oh, priated copy is uncool leh. Rather park that kind of $$ towards a lens or the 50D body

my take, Picasa is free, no frills, simple to use, friendly interface, doubles up as a photo organiser

Photoshop for advance users, much more functions and can do alot more than Picasa.

so which is better in what terms? in terms of ability Photoshop w/o a fight, in terms of user friendliness for regular, simple n basic users like me, Picasa

Here, try it over the weekend. U'd be surprise that it can do a lot for next to nothing. No even adware or shareware stuff here.

Hi Tigs, I have a suggestion for you.

On the 2nd menu group, under tunning. Try increasing the contrast, black out the background. Perhaps it will show and focused the picture on the reds of the leaves ?

Those are great shots, ClaesG, but they are taken with an SX100, this is an SX10 site. Easy mistake to make.

There are a number of ways to get that. The in-camera methods boil down to having the subject well lit and the background pretty dark. You can do this with careful positioning of you and your subject (if the subject cooperates), by using your flash to light up the subject, or by shading the background among other ways. You can also just put a dark card or cloth behind the subject. One feature of the last is that you could actually use a coloured panel to get a nice contrast, instead of using black. You can also get a similar effect by processing the image to black out the background.

Hello Richard05

Repost this as I had mis understood your question earlier.

The dark backgrounds I had created, is nowhere as complicated as what Jon had explained.

I used Picasa 3 (free from Google) as my post processing software. This freebie is nothing complicated as Photoshop to use.

On the contrast adjustment tab, I just played with the settings to achieved my desired shot. Then "save as", volia, a new-look image is made :-)

hoped this helps.

This drop is better than mine.

About the noise (grains) on the pictures, perhaps you liked to try running it pass Noiseware (a freebie for the community edition)
