We're going to a friends wedding in September and although they have a proper photographer they are encouraging guests to bring their cameras as well to record their day...
I want to take my camera but don't want to be loaded down with gear so the question is if I take my 30D which single lens from my sig list would you take?
Im currently leaning towards the 50mm as it's so small and light

17-85mm = more flexibility.

Depends on what you want to capture...but if you dont want to be loaded down I would also lean towards the 50 .
I was a guest at an engagement party recently and took my 17-55 lens I regretted it and wished I had taken my 50...instead. I spent a lot of time worried about leaving my camera on table ...or I had to keep it dangling around my neck.
Also for you if you wanted to leave the flash at home you would have the advantage of the 50 being a faster lens..for low light.

thanks for the replies, you've both said exactly what I've been thinking... my first thought was the 17-85 for versatility but then I don't want to take the flash and want things as light as possible.
I'll probably be mainly taking candids and details but I suppose what Im really asking from those with experience is how limiting the 50mm will be?

Yes, you will almost certainly have to shoot with your speedlight if you want to take th 17-85. Personally, i would say the 50. It's pretty long on a your 30d which is ideal for candids, and it's your best bet for low light..
