Does anyone know the difference between the older extension tubes and the newer "DG" tubes except
This DG Extension tube set has upgraded "Gate-Array IC" circuitry to work better with digital SLR's and some of the digital SLR lenses*.

What does that actually mean, I don't know... it still doesn't fit the EF-s lenses(doesn't concern me anyway), but what are the actual improvements? I;ve been trying to find some info regarding this but no luck.

They use better air inside the tubes. :)
j/k, of course.

One note of interest - I have a couple of Kenko tubes, and while they are very nice on a small-mid sized lens, I had them stacked on a 300 mm lens with a 2X teleconverter one time. The net result was a bit of looseness where you could wiggle the lens very slightly. It seems that there might be a little bit of play in the Kenko tubes that comes into play when stacked.

SOmeone at TKphoto doesn't know what extension tubes do as the example shots are not even possible with extension tubes!

still that doesn't give me any info as to what the difference is between the 2 versions. Probably just the name and the +$30 price tag

I think they are being honest about the imroved capabilities of the new tubes but i have doubts they make a whole lot of difference

As they say- "to work better with digital SLR's and SOME of the digital SLR lenses" (my emphasis)

...but that doesn't really help with understanding it does it:oops:
