Here is the setting: A darkened auditorium photographing musicians on a spotlight lit stage. The back drop will possibly be black and the majority of the musicians will be dressed in black!

So my first XT setting's I'll try will be P(program mode), with a white balance of Tungsten and an ISO of 800. (using the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II lens.)

Anyone with a better suggestion?

honestly, unless it is well lit, it seems like you are going to have a slow ss, with that slow lens. But u dont mention the aperture you want to use, as this would seem to have a small part in your exposure.;) ;)

I was going to let the camera set the aperture as I had no clue what to set it to.

"Partial Metering" will give you a 9 degree center spot and reduce the overexposure caused by the black background.

The 350D/XT in 1600 ISO is not bad... but if you worry about grain, get Noise Ninja or Neat Image to clean up the noise a bit. Use a one point focus and consider evaluating or partial metering to get the exposure right.
