View Full Version : SD750 LCD Screen Issues

I have a Canon PowerShot SD750 that recently and unintentionally was briefly, partially submerged in water (the back half of the camera only). After allowing the camera to air dry for approximately 24 hours, it began working again. There seems to be no problem with the camera function or the picture quality. The problem is that the lcd screen is nearly black. The image can only be observed if the camera is held at just the right angle, and even then only vaguely and very darkly. I was wondering if this is an issue with the lcd light and if it might correct itself over time or if I should consider purchasing a new lcd light to replace this one. Or is it some other issue of which I am unaware? Thanks.

Hey Jon

Your backlight is out, that is what shines through the LCD and allows you to see what is on it. The backlight is out because there is corrosion to the cable or to the connector where it plugs into the PCB. You can try and clean it VERY GENTLY if it's on the cable (dont scratch the gold contacts) but if it's the connector that generally cannot be cleaned.

You can probably find a used SD750 board on e***y (sorry, I don't type their name if they don't pay me) or a complete used camera for a decent price and make one good one from the two.

Thanks Thomas. I took a look at it this morning and I'm pretty sure the corrosion is in the connector. I was a bit nervous taking the camera apart, but I must've done everything correctly as it still worked when I got it back together.

I had already considered purchasing a cheap, used/broken SD750 online and have been watching a couple of auctions, so I will give that a shot and see what comes of it. Thanks again for your helpful explanation and advice.

Good news. I was able to find a used, broken camera online for 99 cents (plus s/h). When I got it taken apart, I discovered the the backlight was still in working condition. I switched it out and had my camera working like new. Unfortunately, in the excitement of having fixed the camera, I neglected to be gentle enough and ended up damaging the lcd screen as I was putting everything back together. One problem solved, another created. And now back to shopping for another cheap, used camera for parts.

You can always buy the lcd direct from canon for like $30 if that is not too much. Of course if you can find a cheaper camera to recycle all the better.
