might want to re-think the paint inside the hood anyway, the problem is the inside of the hood should be black, so less reflections and stray light...

How about a nice red enamel?

.....so i quit my day job today and was bored so i painted my hood.... i dont know if i like it, maybe ill paint it whiteYou've just ruined what may have been a perfectly good lens hood.

ALL of the interior surfaces of a lens hood need to be a flat black (at a minimum) to eliminate reflections of light that can cause. Canon applies a black flocking to the interior of their hoods in an effort to further eliminate reflections. My old Nikon hoods have a series of ribs inside the hood (and are finished in a flat black as well) for the same purpose.

What you've done is the exact opposite of these efforts. Your paint job will result in an uncontrollable nasty flare in your images in some lighting situations.

My suggestion would be to obtain the proper Canon hood for the lens, as it appears to me you have a cheap aftermarket hood that's fastened to the lens' filter threads. Canon's bayonet-mounted hood will physically protect the lens a little better than a cheaper hood connected to the filter thread. The Canon hood will also stay aligned to the lens properly - something that's important with a "petal-shaped" hood.

Maybe if you added red & white stripes it would cut the glare and improve the IQ?

Next time you're bored, it would probably be best if you did this...

The problem is, there are too many people out there that would do this, thinking it's a good idea.

I'd bet you could sell this on ebay to those people for more money than you spent on the hood and the paint...

Yeah, call it a performance enhancing mod - people will eat it up! Pay twice the price!

I don't like gold.... I'd maybe go wild... mask off sections and paint it wild colors and patterns. Re-paint the inside back to black though.

people on this forum seem really up tight and serious all the timeThe problem is that you didn't give any indication that you didn't intend to use the hood in its new condition, and there are lots of photography newbies reading these forums to glean information. If we had not shown them how the paint job could have a significant negative impact on image quality, they may have decided that doing the same thing - to the lens hoods they actually use - would be a good thing.

Jokes are great, but with all the newbies here, one really needs to identify a joke for what it is....

Since you were outselling them, it was jealousy rather than a lack of respect. You were making them look bad, then you quit and let them win.
You shouldn't allow peoples bad attitude and behavior rule your life.

And yeah, that color on a lens hood is a bad idea.

Were they drunk from the festivities?

I've driven ford products all my life but they have some glaring faults ..especially when they break down. It's like whoever the engineer of the pontiac sunfire was really really really really didn't like the consumer

The sad thing is painting the hood black again won't return the hood to its original effect since paint has reflective properties that black plastic does not.

So the painted hood is ok if you use it as an interior decorating piece.

LMAO ford...

id rather ride a scooter to work and be less embarrassed.

Sell the hood on ebay so we can see how much of a profit you made for it.
