Does anyone have 90th anniversary celebration tripod, Gitzo GT90TT Traveller Tripod, if so what is it like? It looks awesome, and has a nice leather case. I would buy this in a heart beat if I had the extra money, but I don't. https://www.photoproshop.com/usa/product_info.php/products_id/703?osCsid=ab29afe264f523903da3828b611a45e7

With that much money spent on a tripod without it having extra features over more "reasonably priced" gitzos, I don't think I'd even bare to bring it out for day to day usage, which is what a travel tripod is used for...

I think it would be more of a collectors piece then anything, but I would still use it. Maybe wait around for the 100th anniversary tripod?

Your link only shows a log in page and not a tripod.

The tubes are still CF, only the hardware is ti. Seems kind of high priced but you'd be the only kid on the block with it. :)

Wow, $2,500 clams for a tripod is getting up there! I will stick with my Gitzo CF GT3531S.

Strange that the link to the tripod works sometimes and not others? Anyway, here is a link to their Gitzo tripod page. The tripod is at the bottom of the page.

I agree -- it's kind of silly. We're all collectors of fine gear...but I'm fairly certain that we're collector's of fine gear that carries superior functionality. And in this case, this one isn't worth it!

If I had the money for it, I'd wait for the 100th anniversary edition. :D

For that price I'd expect it to be the millennium edition...

The "limited edition" marketing craze is funny; limit something in an impossible number of products to fulfill, anyway, and make it that little bit more special. Not that its the case here, 390 is a pretty low number.

I just remember that Ti racing bikes compared to steel or cf flex a great deal. They're twangy. I wonder how this can result in a stiffer, more stable tripod.

Maybe because the titanium on the tripod is much thicker then the tubing on a road bike. There is no way for that to flex at all on the tripod because not much weight is applied to it like the bike would. I'm sure the carbon legs would flex a lot more then the titanium will ever.

Perhaps you're right. But I think the ridiculous price for these 400 items is a trial balloon to see if people will pay for Ti. If so, I suspect Gitzo will develop a line of Ti tripods at a premium over their standard ones.

You have to understand how hard it is to work titanium. I worked in a shop that manufactured titanium parts for the aircraft industry and it can't be machined like aluminum alloys and if the part has to be bent, it has to be heated red hot first...
That said, I would not spend $2500 for a tripod either. The most expensive one I have was about $350...
