For pet photography. It's going to be issued in a local magazine where I live. Any tips? I'm thinking I'm going to take a picture of one of my cats faces and have it cover the whole frame. Not sure yet though.

That would be a mistake, in my opinion.
Concentrate on getting the whole animal and proper lighting. You want the picture to give the appearance of 3-dimensionality, and you want the cat to stand out from the background.
Spend some time in finding a good location for the shot and practice at dealing with various ambient lighting conditions - don't wait until you've done your shooting before you realize that you needed some fill lighting from flash.

Hmm...
Shoot from the animal's level, not above the animal. Good luck!
Edit: This Link (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=719025) is in the "Pets" section. Maybe they can serve as inspiration!

Sweet, sounds good you guys. Thanks for the advice. I actually just found out that it's for a 2010 calender. So they'll be picking 12 applicants in my area.
