What are you using for equipment? It looks like you could adjust your aperture a little more to increase your depth of field. The cake photo has some odd things going on there, did you sharpen the photo? if so I think it was a bit over done. Best photo in the set IMHO is the baseball game shot. Keep up the good work. Get in and start playing with the different modes and see what happens as you make adjustments. Shoot the same subject in multiple shoots with different settings and compare the results. Think about what happens from shot to shot. for example as you stop down the aperture you will tend to increase the shutter speed. how will that affect your shots?

Ariel:
A couple are good. #1 especially. many look like a P&S in auto might have produced better results. I can tell from some of the angles of your play dates that you were simply standing around and shooting. The Blackberry shot for example. But get LOWER to shoot little guys!
Your 'smell the flowers' shot for example. If the boy with the flower was your subject, too much else is going on the photo. Angle to the subject is not right, either. He's offering a flower to three completely disinterested people. Get LOWER. Are you seeing this in your shots yet?
I'm still relatively new at this as well, but have learned some valuable things through trial and error: 1) Get into better position. For the kids, this means being on your knees or backside. 2) shooting angle is everything. Around the back of the disinterested folk would have been a nice angle for the flower shot; 3) just PASS on shooting when the shot just isn't there. After awhile, you'll just end up deleting them anyway. You'll become much better at passing up shots because you know it's 'just not there' rather than taking it and trying to fix something up in PP later.
If you haven't already set your camera to center point focus, try that as well. Looks like focus was missed on several. Also, don't be afraid to crop the heck out of your shots either. Shooting INTO the sun isn't good either. Your play date shots light would have been better with your back to the street/cars that I see. Guess shooting is similar to real estate ... location, location, location!
Have fun and keep shooting!
