I like the composure of it, i just feel like the subject doesnt pop enough off the background

Subject gets lost in the background and foreground for that matter. To many distracting elements.

agreed, solid gappage! what ya really need is some flash. from your shooting position, even on camera flash would have worked fine. You could drop that ISO down from 640 and probably bump your shutter speed slightly as well. Ideally, 2-3 flashes off camera and now you are stylin! framing is nice but watch the horizon line, the building slant is killin me.

I had a flash, beleive it or not, however the kid who was holding it decided to get distracted. :rolleyes:

I intend on ending up with about 3 flashes to shoot with.
