Bentley Speed 8 driven up the hill by none other than Derek Bell.

Looking for C&C please - hopefully I'm slowly getting the hang of panning!!

The background's a bit "busy" but i don't know Goodwood so i wouldn't know if there's anywhere better.

A bit less straw at the bottom would be nice as it's obscuring the tyres slightly and you've chopped a bit of the rear wing end-plate off, but other than that it's in focus and you've picked a good enough shutter speed to keep the wheels moving.

A good base to build on methinks :)

Good shot. The background is fine, maybe a little bit slower shutter while panning for more blur. The foreground is the issue. Could you get to a higher vantage point?

Thanks guys. I'll have a look at some of my other shots with your comments in mind. Glad to hear the focus is OK at last!!

Great work in my opinion. Focus is spot on, the only real criticism (constructive mind) is that of composition - but I won't expand on that as I agree with GSH's comments above.

With regards to the background, it isn't easy at places like Goodwood, or certain racing circuits to get away from cluttered / distracting backgrounds. The main way of getting around this is to use a slower shutter speed to try and blur the background as much as possible to reduce this problem. Which you've done here.

You've certainly got the hang of panning though - I like my motorsport shots to have as much blur as possible, but with the subject in focus obviously. It is always difficult to know how slow to go with shutter speeds as there comes a point where you begin to lose the edge on the focus on the subject. As I general rule (thanks Cadwell & Simon Harrison) I always use a shutter speed of 1/320th or slower for motorsport. But generally slow it down as much as possible to get the results I am after. You will see the result I got in this photo of a Maserati MC12 at Silverstone (FIA GT 2009) with a shutter speed of only 1/60th sec. I liked the results, but it might not be to everyones taste. Certainly takes your eye off a distracting background though (which incidently wasn't a real problem in this case with the colourful raised terraced seating behind).

You chose a GREAT subject for your shot Dredd - The Bentley Speed 8 is my favourite Le Mans car of all time. Such a fantastic shape, colour scheme, and it won the event. The Speed 8 is much nicer than the EXP Speed 8 that Bentley ran during 2001 & 2002. It obviously worked better on track too.

Great work - Look forward to seeing some more of your work in future threads :D

It still looks like it can compete in the 24hrs

The background is fine

Did you not notice the big stripey building, road cars and marshalls there?

those things are natural, what would be unnatural is if NOTHING would be in there ;)

True, but it's not an ideal background.

The angles of the chevrons on the building are way distracting.
