I didnt even know there were such thing as different firewire. I'm a PC user and the standard firewire has 6wires: power, ground, and two pairs of data.

Is this a new Macbook?
If so, you need a 9 pin to 6 pin cable or adapter.
The 9 PIN or Firewire 800 supports are higher rate of data transfer than the Firewire 400 or 6 6pin.

This is an example. You can get a cable that's 6feet long from the Apple store for about 30 bucks for a Belkin.

There's also micro firewire, 4 pins and clearly a different plug and socket.
I think we need pictures to give advice..

Now, of course, some cables have one type of connector at one end, and another at the other end.
Most Type 2 are only type 2 at one end..

So what you need is a cable with the Type B at one end to fit the Mac and the type that's on your sony on the other end..
If the Sony has full size 6 pin, Here is a 9 pin to 6 pin;

15' http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270200
If the Sony has the smaller 4 pin, 9 pin to four pin;

Best place hands down to buy your cables.
They have what you need there and the cheapest around.
Get you HDMIs there too.
