Hey all

Rather new to these online album thingamajigs and have a question about quality.

My flickr is www.flickr.com/photos/kcyeung (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/www.flickr.com/photos/kcyeung)

I saved all the picutres as 1024 px and quality 8 using PS

My question is if i saved the pictures using the maximum of 12 would people be able to see the difference or do flickr reduce quality themselves?

Also is there much point in uploading the originals because they are around 3-4 megs each and this seems like a waste of time to upload.

Also people with pro accounts do you usually upload the originals or just a bigger version ie 2048?

Hope this makes sense rather sleep this morning

I upload all my pics on flickr @ 1024 on the long side @ 72 dpi hoping that is will reduce the quality enough that the thiefs cant use it. At that size it still looks good on flickr but not so good as a desktop background or a print.

DPI is meaningless on a screen, try viewing a 1 DPI image next to a 300 DPI image, you won't see a difference. What can make a difference is watermarking the images, saves people hot-linking to your shots and/or lifting them for blogs without permission. Doesn't stop those handy with a clone/crop tool but it's a useful prevention tool all the same.

Personally I upload at 600 or, more recently, 800px.

deleted my flickr account already, really didn't like the layout

now starting a trial with smugmug, although its more expensive if i decide to go with it, but i find the layout alot nicer and using it alot more intuitive.

don't forget to use one of the 50% off codes for smugmug...just search and you'll find them. it's a great deal. :)
