Please be gentle as I am a forum virgin !
I picked up a Canon S30 in the sales recently & must say it's a cracking piece of kit ...
I have already realised that there is a real need for some extra purchases to ease the process of taking photos / uploading to the PC etc
I initially was considering an AC adapter & using it with the S30 to upload to the PC but wonder if I should instead get another battery & a CompactFlash reader which would be about the same cost wise and give me more flexibility ... waddya think ?
Paul ;)
BTW nice friendly forum - lots of good tips / advice ...

IMO you should buy a second battery and CF reader instead of buying AC adapter for the reason of its flexibility. If you buy an AC adapter, you can only enjoy it whenever there is an AC power socket.

Or you can also buy an external power pack (2000+ mAh NiMH battery pack) and connect it to DC coupler of AC adapter. But do it at your own risk since I know none have ever tried it.

I agree with Delphinus - go with the extra battery and a CF reader.

I bought a cheap flash reader for 12 bucks, it works great. Even if you don't have a card reader, the amount of time the camera is on and connected to your computer should be fairly small, just dump all the image onto you hardrive and your done. I downloaded 144 images from my camera in 6 minutes the other day, 6 minutes does not justify going out an buying the AC adapter, in my opinion. If your going to be doing a lot of indoor pictures, near a power outlet, then the adapter might save the hassle of worrying about batteries, but for downloading it is a waste. A second battery is like giving yourself more freedom, I'm going to buy a 3rd.

PaulBoy,

You can also use the compact flash card reader to transfer not only your digital images to another computer, say a MAC, at college or work or and it will pick the card reader up without you having to install any new driver software. As long as the MAC is operating with OS 9 or above. I also use the disks to transport Word files, Excel files, etc between different locations.
