It will be my first time shooting at the formula drift with a media pass. I would really appreciate any tips to take good photos.
Thanks in advance!

have fun!
I'll be shooting there as well.
Keep an eye out for angles, make sure your exposure is set up properly.

Since it will start late in the afternoon light will be a challenge. should I bump up the iso like 1600?

I try to avoid 1600 whenever possible. It should be lit pretty well.
I'm going to see what the light does & make adjustments while I'm out there.
Without being in the light, at the event, saying to use 800 ISO @ f/2.8 & 1/125th could be a great suggestion, or it could be a horrible suggestion. It will all depend on the light.

You are going to want a slower shutter speed anyways so you can pan.

I'll be in the pits as well for the first time, haha. But from my experience from last year, at night, iso 800 was doable for panning shots. I was getting around 1/80th-1/100th at f/2.8.

I'd stick with your 70-200 and use shutter priority so you can pan and get some motion blur. I shot some pics there last there and it was a blast.

Build up a portfolio of some of your best photos until now, and contact magazines, online tuning websites and offer your services to them. If they like what they see you may be taken on by them. To get media in Japan D1 a lot of guys work for web-based companies and they attain full media credentials.
Best of luck.

I find 1/80 or 1/60 to be the optimal speed to capture panning shots from a drift event. Did it last week here in Singapore. Don't forget – AI Servo!
