Greetings to all who live in the South East.

Your local Infantry Battalion -The 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment is doing its homecoming parades after tours of both Iraq and Afghanistan.

up to 300 men of the battalion (including their TA soldiers) will march with colours flying and band playing through several towns over the next 10 days.

I am asking for you to tell your friends and make the effort to turn out to cheer on the boys.

Its also a chance to get some images.

I was with them throughout Iraq, I am attached to them at our camp in Germany, My day job is to fix their weapon systems, my part time role is as the battalion photographer, so I will be there, easy to spot- desert combats and camera gear!

Tuesday 14th- AM- Southampton, PM- Romsey

Wednesday 15th- Guildford

Thursday 16th- Lewes

I would like to see our brave lads return.

My father was in Afghanistan in 1938/9! I still have his photos and then he joined up in May 1939, before the war.

I think I may be able to make Canterbury.

Great post thanks.

OK, Pompey, 1200 (ish) we will march on to the square by the guildhall, small parade there then a march around commercial road.
feel free to collar me, I'll be the bloke running around like a loony with a D700 and a big black bag (in desert combats)

We got down there around 12, after trying to find somewhere to park, ended up being on the balcony thing, opposite the guidhall. Think we saw you running about. Will post some pics in a bit, still sorting out the ones from a Discworld event at the weekend :)

saw someone up there, was a bit busy, only phot there in combats, really sweaty!
one of the bonuses of being in uniform was that I didnt have to go with the press pack!

ok, I've sorted my press access for tomorrow, no special access for the parade, but I am invited into the theatre for the ceremony and interviews.

Not promising, but I'll see what I can sort press wise.

Right here's my plan from the Press brief I have been given.

It'll all change once I'm there, but I like to have a plan....

Right, plan...

I want to check out the following multi storey carparks, well they look like multi's on google maps!. (although having a van may impede my access to them in the morning!)

1 & 2 as I'd like to get a shot from high up, looking down on the march past.
http://www.swaffs.co.uk/images/2009/Homecoming Parade Map2.jpg

so howabout meeting at the Victoria shopping Place at 9:30 ish for coffee and a recce.
Roads close at 10:30

I want to be at '3' for 11:15.

Parade is at '3' at 12:15 which includes an inspection and medal presentation.

March out is from there at 12:30

Finishing at 13:00

Then at 13:15 I need to be in the theatre for Press interviews etc.

I think I might have access on the roads with my press accred, so may break away mate once the march starts. We'll just wing it, and depending on the carpark angle as well of course.

I will have plenty of time to put up images over the next few days.

in what can only be described as murphys law today, after 9 days of running, jumping, up and down ladders and stairs, climbing on street furniture (phoneboxes mainly) and dodging crowds I took my dog for a walk on returning home.

whereupon I wrenched my ankle and now have my leg in plaster!!
