Now I feel guilty...I should not complain, she has supported me on this hobby and has not asked for much for herself...I should spoil her for mothers day!!

Now I feel better!!

And all you really wanted was soap and a box of chocolates. Oh well, better luck next year.

On a more serious note, it is really handy when you know what your partner REALLY wants. A hobby like ours does give endless possibilities.

Bet you can't stop smiling!

Thanks everyone..... you guys are such a great bunch of fun. Skip's birthday is in September....... am thinking about the 100-400/L...... Gotta work hard this summer and save my dollars:D :D
We are taking a 2 week trip to the Greek Islands next year so the plan is for versatility in lenses. Between us both, I think we should manage;)

great present :D btw i just noticed the card in the background fifty is nifty :D wouldve been more fitting for you to get the 50mm F1.8 (aka nifty fifty :D)

This might have been a good place to make use of shallow depth of field capabilities of the 16-35, so everyone didn't see your birthday card in the background. Now you can't lie about your age to anyone here . . .

Congratulations on the great L glass. That is the one missing from my kit, and the next photography-related purchase I will make.

Happy Birthday, Maureen!

Yeah, well I already have the 50/1.4 and wanted a good wide angle lens for my wedding shoots....AND I wanted an L so I asked for this one and received. Life is good.

The problem with having that one lens with a red stripe is that you open yourself up to catching that dreaded "L fever" and find yourself wanting more... From someone who knows, I have six of them and want more.

As one that will be catching up with you in 2 months, I wholeheartedly agree!! Unfortunately, I used up all my birthday points on my "early" 50th present (the stuff in my sig), but then again, how can I complain!! :D

Looking at the enclosed picture, Maureen, I can't decide wether you're still celebrating your 16 or already 35?

Anyway, I congratulate you for this new lens: I can see the box in the background, but I am a bit confused by the design of the packaging...

Do you confirm it's the 50mm f/1.8, aka. "nifty fifty" as spelled on the box? ;)

Nice, I wanted that lens but decided to get the 17-40mm f/4 instead at nearly half the cost.

Looks like my analysis in the 'Any Guesses?" contest was essentially correct,

Congratulations on getting the better of the two choices.

Now if Skip was really nice he would get you one of the three cameras that can really use that lens.

Live Long and enjoy the show.

Actually pierrot, that "Nifty Fifty" in the background was my birthday card. As nice as you are about my age, I turned 50 this year. The lens was the 16-35mm/2.8.

For all of you who are waiting for posts, please wait a little longer. I am working until Thursday (14 hour nights) and then I will give the new lens a workout for you.

Tammie: I thank-you :)

Maureen Happy Birthday...I have to ask...why the 16-35 and not the 10-22? I am trying to decide between the two of them...

Maureen Happy Birthday...I have to ask...why the 16-35 and not the 10-22? I am trying to decide between the two of them...

I did debate that same question for a while. Then I did some research and felt the 16-35 met my needs and had the better quality. Plus I didn't think I needed that much more of a wide angle as my main use is for group wedding shots and scenery. I think I would have been happy with either one....now I need to get out there and play with this new lens and post some pictures. Maybe I can help you make up your mind:D :D
