Hello, I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to flash photography, and I was considering purchasing a used Speedlight 420EX for my Canon Rebel XSi (EOS 450D).

I noticed that the 420EX does not have FEC built into the unit... I know the FEC is a feature of my EOS 450D, but does this present any issues? I would like to know if anyone can see any problems before I buy this flash unit.

It is not really an option for me to upgrade to a better flash, as I am on a budget (planning on buying this discontinued unit used).

Thanks in advance,
Alex

You can set the FEC in camera.

A question for the OP, I can see from your signature that you eventually did purchase the Canon Speedlite 420EX. I too have the 450D and am thinking of buying this flash used, at a budget price. Would you, in your experience of using it since originally asking the question, recommend this? What features are missing in your opinion compared to the newer version (430EX) and do you find incompatibilities or inconsistencies?
