This summer I've been on a train picture kick. Let me tell you, shortline railroad operators are some of the nicest people I've ever talked to. I've been to 5 different railroads in PA this spring and summer and all of them have gone out of their way to give me time tables, back roads to take for getting shots, one of them even let me borrow a radio so I could listen in and follow the train.

If anyone here gets the bug to take some train pictures....... stop in the office introduce yourself. It will probably be one of the best times you ever had. Just don't be suprised when they want prints of your best shots to hang on the wall.

Good advice! This summer I've been on a train picture kick. So... where the H are the images in the "Share" section? ;)

Good advice. Just remember to talk to the train crews when at all possibile. And remember to stay off train tracks, and away from the equipment. Railroads take trespassing very seriously.

Shortlines may be nice in that way, but the class 1's on the other hand will most of the time not be so nice.
