Hello

Just a quick question.
When I attach my Quantum Battery to my 550EX the battery flap on the 550EX dangles open. Is there a way of detaching the battery flap from the Flash or does it have to remain in the open position?

Cheers

I (carefully) filed out a slot in my Vivitar 283's door to allow me to close it. I used that modified door on at least two more 283's, and one with the modfied door was used yesterday.

But I don't know about modifying my 550 this way. The door is attached in a much more sophisticated way and if I messed it up ...

In any case I decided to try NiMh batteries before buying the Canon/Quantum adaptor, and I've never looked back. They are cheap, dependable and small. Even though I haven't needed it, a second set of these batteries would get me through a thousand flash shots. I also don't miss the umbillical cord or the weight of the Quantum.

The 283 above is now used as a hair light when I use monolights on location. There the Quantum does a good job. But I like the 550 with the NiMh batteries.

Which cable are you using? I use the Quantum CZ Cable which attaches to the high voltage port of the 550EX. The battery compartment stays closed with 4 AA batteries inside to control the electronics of the flash.

I bet that he's using the Quantum One battery that goes into the battery compartment, and not one of the Quantum Turbo's. The recycling time is quicker with the Turbo but from my perspective I would rather have a slower recycle and not have to worry about the AA's in the flash going south.

Hello

Just the Quantum Battery 1 seems a bit strange that the battery flap on the 550EX is not detachable, guess I will have to live with it.
