There is somthing to be said for taking your camera with you at all times.
I went out yesterday for several hours and did not have one bird encounter that was worthy. Going to the store this morning to get breakfast I happened to come across these fellows and happened to have my camera with me.

The first one is a Great Egret, and the second one is a Snowy Egret.
Sometimes they even roost in the same tree.

Excellent pics! There is something to be said for taking your camera with you at all times.
For all sad words
Of tongue and pen
The saddest are these:
"Auuggh! I forgot my camera!"

Nice catches! The second one looks like it could be in National Geo. :D

I used a 20D with a 100-400mm set at 400mm(handheld), ISO 400, f5.6, 1/250 and a lot of luck.

I just got home from a migratory bird sanctuary 15 miles from my home. In a dozen palm trees, there must be a couple of dozen nests, all mixed together. Snowy egrets, Great egrets, and Black-crowned night herons. Fighting, courting, nesting... it's a pretty messy place with everything happening. Since the Greats are much larger than the Snowies, they will come over and steal twigs from the Snowy nests.
I was doing pretty good until one of the birds "annointed" my lens. Well, that's why I keep a filter there.
