I ventured to a place called Writing On Stone in southern Alberta. At one point it was a sacred Indian burial ground and since turned into a provincial park. In most of the park you can wander around these hills. There is a part where the ancient engravings in the stone are cordoned off and you really can’t get a decent shot of them. The area is a real anomaly as it is in the middle of the bald prairies along a river. The sandstone hills are only about 1 mile long and on both sides of the river.

As these are just basically sandstone many people have taken the opportunity to carve their own little sayings into them. That is a real shame.

This area is a natural habitat for rattlesnakes and scorpions. It was too early in the season and couldn’t find any of either species. Hope you enjoy

Sheldon, those are really beautiful. I don't know how I've missed that park, having crossed at Sweetgrass several times. It is a lot like the badlands around Drumheller, as well as those in the US.

Fantastic and interesting shot Sheldon. Your skies are amazing. thanks for sharing these. :) Sure must have been an awful lot of erosion going on, what amazing formations.

It is like a mini Drumheller. If you had gone straight east from Sweetgrass for about 50 miles you would have run into this. This area is actually about 10 miles from the US border (as the crow flies).

The use of a circular polarizer makes the world of difference when working on such high contrast subjects.

Thanks for the comments
