B&H is having an event this sunday btw 7:30pm-8:30pm out on 34th and 5th avenue for Manhattanhenge.
It happens only twice a year when the sun aligns with the east-west streets of Manhattans main street grid! Check it out guys, ill be there with my friend (an oly user) to try and get some good shots of the event.

Interesting, but one normally lets a subsequent poster decide if the image is book worthy or not.

LOL
If you use Photoshop you could pull the converging verticals apart and give it a couple of degrees clockwise rotation and I will put the BW smilie back :-)

LOL!!!
Well when i head out there this sunday will take some shots and see what comes out. What do you suggest as a good filter to fight off the sun and get a great head on shot. Ive thought about an 8point star filter. Any ideas?

Point filters are are often seen as a little tacky, a small appature and long exposure will give you a similar effect on a point of light like a lamp but will not work on a setting sun. e.g.

for sunsets, you need to be vary careful with the exposure or like me bracket like mad, on the tripod in manual and cover all your bets.

Thanks a lot Niel, your work is very inspiring! I hope one day to reach your level of sophistication! I though about shooting multiple exposures but currently i do not own a tri-pod:oops: I love the night landscape shots but hand held it can not be done. Hopefully in the near future ill be able to afford a decent tri-pod and tryout some of the great photo opportunities they provide.
I have somewhat of an idea on how to approach the shot. It will be very difficult to maintain great exposure without shooting at multiple exposures due to a lack of a tri-pod. My PP skills are decent and i think i can make up for the underexposure i might experience in the surrounding buildings. Crossing my fingers that i can get a good shot since i wont have another chance until the fall.

I'm going! see you guys there :D
There seems to be another Manattanhenge "Party" at Bryant park... so I might go there but chances are, I'll go to the B&H one because its more photog orientated, the Bryant park is more of just staring and chilling.

I was just suggested to go with a Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 filter. What do you guys think vs a graduated filter???

Wish i had a tripod although trying to dodge the oncoming buses and cars i didnt miss it too much! But man what an event, especially with all the B&H people out there, living in the city for so long ive never seen such a view before. The sun poked its head out for about 2 minutes max and it aligned perfectly with the city blocks. Really was breath taking. Especially when you had everyone just standing on the corners looking on with the orange glow of the sun hitting everything straight on.
I was on the corner with the chase bank. Front row on it because i didnt want anyone in front of me when trying to get a shot. Just like was mentioned before the people and cars were the real challenge!!! Which corner where you on?
