T1i and mac webcam

I have been using the t1i tethered to my mac and it works really well taking videos of my fish. I was wondering if I could use this as an overpriced webcam.

I would say that there is probably a software writer that could do it. But what is the limitation with the T1i that it only takes 12 minute video?

Sensor heat?

Using it as a webcam would probably exceed that.
