For all you Studio and T&I shooters, what is you most popular type Glossy, Lustre or Matte?
I have always printed Lustre but might be buying a Shinko to do all my printing and it prints in Matte and Glossy. I don't wantto shock all my clients so wanted to get some opinions
Thanks

For me, selection of the paper surface depends on the subject and presentation. For example, if the image is to show finite detail and/or pizazz, I would consider glossy and maybe lustre. For people images I generally go with matte. Now with presentation,i.e., will it be mounted on the wall w/o glass or frame, or with glass and frame; in an album, etc.; it will impact visual acuteness.

I am mainly going to be using it for 8x10s of digital memory mates and packages for shoots of Sports Leagues and School photography. Kind of curious what style other photographers are printing their packages in

I use lustre for my T&I and action sports photos.

Is that because it doesn't reflect light as much?

I have been using lustre as well however the Shino only prints Glossy and Matte. The Matte finish is somewhat similar to the Lustre from my Lab but there is a difference. I would like to do my own printing this year

Whats the benefit of using lustre over glossy?
EDIT: NM. Learned from below. :-D

It really combines the best properties of matte and glossy. It's much more durable and doesn't pick up finger prints like glossy, which can be important for digital memory mates. It also give shots more vibrance than matte, although not as much as glossy.
That and it is easy to see (you don't get the bad reflection/glare that you get with glossy), as you are saying.

It does put that protective layer on the photo with the glossy as well, right?
I'd probably go with matte, personally.

Derek,
I'm not 100% sure how the Dye Subs as far as the coating goes work but I have seen the results from several Shinkos in both Glossy and Matte and really like what I have seen. I prefer the Matte because it doesn't reflect much and won't leave any fingerprints. There is a huge advantage for me to print myself and is cost effective ( around 1-1.20 a sheet) as well as it improves my workflow and I can deliver my packages a lot faster, not too mention the advantage of having on site printing for games and tournaments.

Lustre; the more light you add, the more detail and color you can back rather than an ugly reflection like with glossy.

I'm in about the same position as you, I'm pretty darn close to getting a Shinko printer, I just need to find someone that can man the table while I'm shooting.
My matte preference was for the same reasons as you stated. Especially for event sales.
What model are you looking at?

I use lustre as a standard print and offer metallic as well.

the 1245 8x10/8x12, most of my work is in the form of an 8x10, there is a new sony out that does lustre .49 cents for a 5x7 and 16 for a 4x6 that is actually better than the shinko 5x7 so it just depends on what size you are going for. I am only getting the Shinko 1245. Feel free to PM me and I will send you all the quotes I have received and where I have found the best deal on the printer and rolls of paper

I'll probably go with the 2145. Most of my orders are for 5x7's. When someone orders an 8x10 from me, they usually order 4-5 5x7's also. I figure I can mail out anything bigger than 5x7.
Had my eyes on this one:

Do you have a link or model number for that Sony?

I believe this is the one Ronnie at Imagin Spectrum recommended
http://imagingspectrum.com/Sony-UPDR200-B-Stock-Digital-Roll-Printer-UPDR200-B-pr-3050.html
He said the prints were .49 for a 5x7 and .16 for a 4x6 so it was a savings of 5 cents a print over the shinko and the quality was better but I would call and talk to them and ask, I heard it has been out on the market for about 9most an gotten very good reviews
