Here some shots from the last IPSC match I attended. I was competing, so did not had too much time to concentrate on taking pics, but I tried to get the action. Any comments is welcome. I never realized how hard it is to take pics of this sport remaining in the safety area :D

It is a timer. The timer starts when it detects the first shot and marks each shot. The last shot mark is the total time for the stage.
Rob612: Great shots, BTW.

Right. And if you consider that the final scoring is basically based on points divided by time, the damn timer is the nightmare of every shooter :D :D :D
Vetteography: thanks, but I think that I should try something different. I believe you are a shooter, so you know what I mean, a point of view that is "in angle". But a need a remote AND a shooter that I trust 100% before setting the camera in those areas :D

Amen to that. I would love to get some shots like that. I always wanted to do that when I was shooting IPSC, but I had the same problem. Well, that and the organizer thought I was insane for even suggesting it. :p

I have another match on May 29, if I can get a remote before that date, I think I'll try. I can handle the organizer, being myself this time :D

I have two STIs that I use for matches, plus a Tanfoglio Limited HC, all with skate tape on them almost everywhere. I have small hands so I need a thin grip. But it must GRIP while shooting otherwise a double tap becomes a single miss :D Its not against the rules, at least in Standard Division, so why not if it works ? :)
EDIT: I have several other guns that are not used as "tools", and these do not have any tape on them. But if you shoot IPSC seriously and professionally, the gun becomes just a simple tool. And a tool that is there to help you win. So whatever is needed, no matter if its awful to see, you just do it. Skate tape ? Soldering iron on a Glock handgrip ? Metal tape on the sights to avoid loosening during matches ? All the same, just tool adjusting to your needs.
Actually, the thing that was used to do to the Glocks with the soldering iron now is against the rules for Production Division (the Range Master will pass you straight in Open). so I passed in standard :D :D

Hey,. I wasn't knocking it.. :)
I use it too... (and i'm not doing any competitions)
Hard to see in this image (please excuse the goofy red dot.. it as strictly for the photo)
But the tape is there on the front of the grip,

....and this is my baby.. a complete home made custom job... even carved up the frame myself to add the S&A grip safety.
Hmmm... now you've got me thinking.. some Skateboard tape on my 1D!!!!!

Very nice shots. I wish I were good enough to shoot pro. I have the Colt Gold Cup and very shaky hands. Thanks for posting these.

Those things are impossible to photograph from the safety zone, but sure are fun to watch.
You may want to blur out the SN from the gun...

CDS: I did not intended you were knoking it. I just took the chance to explain my point of view :) BTW your Caspian i really a nice piece, but even for the picture I'll have that dot removed :). Atteched a pictur of my main match pistol (this is a Tanfoglio Limited HC in .40 SW) with all the skate tape and metal tape on the sight. A real tool, nothing else :D. This look really newish because its my second pistol this year (I actually wore out one and a half pistol per year,@ 80K reound/year).
Dannym: You should try, it just needs some training. The Gold Cup it not the best suitable handgun for IPSC due to the caliber and to the limited amount of rounds in every mag, but sure enough its a great pistol
DocFrankenstein: I know its possible, using a radio remote and a VERY low tripod. I have to give it a try as soon as I have a RC available. I have done it before with a videocamera (just put it in place, turn it on and waste a lot of tape... :D) and the results were absolutely spectacular. I have to find some time to extract some frames of that experiment.

That's some serious looking work peice!
Yeah.. the Red Dot. took that photo some years back.. the Dot is actually mounted to a follow spot (spotlight) in the theatre I work in.. we use ~el cheapo Red Dots to site in the spotlight so we don't miss our mark.
Some day I'll have to try to get some decent shots.. I promise.. no more sale bin red Dot!!!!

That's exactly what it is, a tool customized for the user. Its reasons for existence is to do its job flawlessy and without failing a shot. If I'll get a miss - that costs me about 3 seconds in the final count- it has to be for MY fault, not of the tool. And sometimes it happens :D
BTW I like the idea of using el cheapo dots for the spotlights... Would not be even better to use cheap lasers, like the pointing laser pens for projections or similar so you'll see exactly where the spot will land ? Then you can use the dot for the followup if needed, so not to have the laser on stage.
