I bought a 50D today and I am having trouble. I had no idea this camera was so complicated. I thought all cameras were the same!
I graduated from the Xsi and got the 50D. All excited, I took the camera outside to shoot with my new 60mm lens. I got some cool pictures and came back to my computer. Hooked up my memory card and the pictures weren't even able to be recognized!!! They had a weird file name I have never seen before. Then I hooked my camera directly to my computer. Viola the pictures showed up but they are TINY!!!! WTH?!?!
I was shooting in RAW and my computer won't convert to the DNG file! I am so confused!!!! Can someone help me?

Did you download the software that came with the camera?

This probably seems incredibly rude of me to say, and I don't mean it to, but I reccomend reading the manual.
It'll make your life a lot easier if you just assume you know nothing about the camera. It's kind of like going to work for a coffee place and acting like you know everything just because you worked at another one. They're not the same thing. Allow yourself to learn some new things.

Yes, I installed the software. Now I have a bunch of bull**** software on my computer I don't even want. I want to be able to open the files in Bridge...where I do most of my workflow.

Ummm, the bull**** program called Digital Photo Professional will read your 50D raw files.

I'm not bashing you. I'm telling you which program will work for you.

I stand by my previous statement.

This has really gotten me down....bad. I would rather work with Bridge. But if I have to adapt to this other software so be it. I learned Bridge pretty damn quick.
Another thing that is bugging me is I think the sensor is dirty already! I just took it out for some shots earlier and prominent black specks are all over some of the images in the same exact spots on 2 shots back to back. But not in any other shots.
I cannot understand anything that is happening to me right now. I feel like I don't know crap about photography. And I have been shooting for almost 8 years and I have had my work in galleries!! Come on!

Perhaps go back to the store and speak to the person you purchased it from? They can most likely help you.

Assuming you're on a PC:

ACR is Adobe Camera RAW. It is what reads the RAW files and converts them.
I stand by my previous statement.
Reading the camera's manual isn't going to tell her that she needs to update ACR, an Adobe program.

LOL!
I updated to ACR 5.4. The images open with Image Professional but they still show up in Bridge as well! I just have to figure out how to make folders and sort with Image Professional. Jesus H this has been a debockle!
I must have been so anxious to use the 50d I forgot how to use everything! ugh.
But, my sensor is nasty! Especially on longer exposures. I got 4 specks on the top of my images on exposure from 6 secs and above and slightly slower. Anything faster and nothing! You would think for a 1,300.00 camera body it would be flawless as of right now.

That is so rude to tell someone to read his manual:D

I have gotten it figured out. I read the manual. There are just some little things I needed to iron out and work around. The more I use the camera and the program the more I will learn as well.
Now to figure out this crappy dirty sensor non sense. :(

If you mean to say "but they still don't show up in Bridge":
