Hey all...
So i've purchased several types of SD and SDHC cards over the years...
most recently i've gotten a 16gb Patriot class 6 and a 4gb Sandisk Extreme III

the Patriot being class 6 i know is slower so i wont bother talking about transfer rates with that one....
BUT the Sandisk has 30mbps printed right on it. I have never been able to achieve 30mbps transfer rates out of these things. 17mbps read and 10mbps write is about as fast as i have ever gotten.
I have tried using two different readers, internally powered (laptop), externally powered (desktop) with the same results.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

Transfer speeds are very dependent upon the quality of your memory card reader. You can check Rob Galbraith's web page for some test results - he's tested multiple memory cards and card readers and posted the results:

Look at your reader device speeds and your hard drive write speed and see where the hold up is.

for the desktop, it's my reader...
laptop... reader, and the hard drive isnt too promising either... that tops out at about 25mbps
