I have had two recent situations where I really wanted to use a long exposure to create movement in bright light. I have decided to buy some filters but I can't seem to find the info I need to help me choose a brand. I am not a professional photographer, but I don't want to throw away money on junk either. I have searched the subject but it seems that all the brands get slammed to some degree.

What brand is recommended for consumer level ND filters, or for that matter which brands should be avoided? I also want to get a Polarizer and UV filter. I see Tiffen, Hoya, Dolica, and B&W. It seems that only the Hoya are multi coated or even coated at all for that matter without spending big bucks. Hoya multicoated is not too much more than a Tiffen uncoated filter. I plan to get a .3, .6 and .9 to use and stack. 58mm filters for my Canon A720IS. Thaks

I'd recommend the same filters for any camera - Hoya S-HMC, B+W MRC or Heliopan SH-PMC. In the stronger ND values, you won't find many that are multicoated, I suspect because the effect of 3 or more stops of attenuation (doubled, because the light would have to pass through the glass twice) renders the need superfluous. But for polarizers and UV, I'd only consider the seriously multicoated filters from those three companies. I personally only use B+W MRC on my gear.
