Hi just bought a 300d and am experiencing some frustration with the metering modes. Partial and centred weighted seem to be only set in certain modes. I want to be able to choose the metering mode I want with the expose mode I want and not have the camera choose it for me. Can anyone tell me if any of the "hacks" will overcome this problem? Many thanks

From memory, you can't change the metering mode on the 300D, I can't remember if the hack gives it to you. My quick look at the docs that come with the wasia hack didn't show anything up. You could try reading this: http://revjim.net/comments/9796/

wicksy - for the most part - the 300D is going to use evaluative metering in most modes including the AV and TV modes. If you go into full manual - I beleive that it defaults to center-weighted averaging. What I tend to do if I really want to meter off a specific part of a scene - is aim my center focusing point at what I would like to meter off of and then press the * button and it uses partial metering (closest thing to spot metering on the 300D) to set the exposure on what I pointed at. This works pretty well - you should give it a try.
None of the hacks that I have seen allow you to choose the metering mode on the 300D. Probably my biggest regret on the Rebel to be honest with you.
