Lighting info: Ab800 @ 1/4 power shot thru white umbrella high camera right. (along with a big umbrella to block the sun high camera left)

I haven't shot anything for a while but I saw that there was a strobist boot camp assignment going on and I had to take part. I'm still not sure if I like the first photo because of how much flame there is around the food...but I do like the second photo kind of :\ I just don't like how flat the image looks.

What do you guys think? I need some suggestions on how I can make this better because I want to do this sort of thing again. Any ideas on how I can sort of control the flame to the way I want?

It needs mustard more than C&C :-)

Mustard? On a steak?? What an insult to the beef! (;) - just kidding - we all have different tastes, don't we?)

Agree with underexposed. The steak blends into the background so much that the potatoes and the pepper become more-significant objects.

Do you think if I add a small white reflector in the back of the grill would that help bring out the steak from blending into the grill?
