Can you explain the technique involved. I'm quite new to photography, and that looks quite impressive.

Well, if I was to do it, I'd set my camera up on a tripod, set the timer(or have a remote) and take numerous pictures with me standing in different places at the exact same angle. THen you can easily use the clone tool in photoshop to put the pictures together.

I like your "creation" very much, serissolutions. Expecially because of the two at the table and the two standing at the counter who look like they are talking or interacting with each other. That adds an element that many of these clonings don't have.

A wonderfully clever idea! So, do you select/cut/paste or use a 'clone' tool or what? Do you use manual exposure to ensure they are the same? Light the subjects differently in each frame? C'mon, give us the details? :-)

For mine, just to throw it together quick, I used full auto. The simple way to do it?
1) Take 2 or more pictures with you whereever you want you to be. If you do not have a tripod, place the camera somewhere that it WILL NOT move. If the camera moves between pictures, you won't be able to get the effect without messing something up.
2) Open one of the pictures in photoshop. You are going to use this as your new 'cloned' picture.
3) Open a 2nd picture while the first is still open.
4) Select the Healing brush tool (the cute little band-aid thingie) and on the menubar where it says 'Normal' select 'Replace' from the drop down menu.
5) On the 2nd picture you opened, hold 'Alt'. You will notice the brush turn into a crosshair. Click somewhere in the picture that will remain stationary. For example, in my picture, I used the door hinge that is right above my head on the right. Let go of 'alt'
6) Now move back to the first picture. Click the exact same spot (for me, the hinge), and start painting your new you into the picture. Sometimes lighting might be an issue, that is just something you have to either learn to work with in photoshop, or before you take the picture, plan the lighting.

No man thats the hard way.
I take as many pics as I can, yes with tripod so the camera doesnt move.
The in one photoshop file I put all the images in its individual layers.
Then I simply use the eraser tool and erase around all the areas on each layer that I want my self to show through.

13th of May 2005 (Fri), 07:47
There a ton of ways to do this in PS. I personally open all the images. Select one image to be the "main" image. Then I create a new layer and use the clone tool to bring the clone over. The new layer allows me to trim off excess stuff around the clone or adjust the brightness or whatever. Repeat with a new layer each time. If you don't use PS often it may be a pain @ first, but after a couple tries it's easy, so get to it. =)

No problem.
I dont understand why everyone is explaining it the hard way. The clone tool is for experienced PSers. Just use the eraser tool and it is simple to do and understand.
1) set up a camera on the tripod, take pics of yuorself in different positions, dont move the camera
2) load each image into one PS file on its own individual layer
3) On each layer erase the part that will expose the layer benieth it, thus exposing your clone.
So simple.
Let me know if my explaination sux and I will post screen shots.
Its a little more complex when your clones overlap each other.
PS: Dont confuse the term "clones" with the "cloning tool" in PS. YOu dont need the cloning tool, its just another way of doing it.

OMG I typed all the steps in this reply and my browser failed. I had to type it all over again. I hope you appreciate all the effort!!!
IN WINDOWS (I DONT KNOW MAC)
1) Open image 1
2) press CTRL-A to select the entire image
3) press CTRL-C to copy the image
4) menu "file/new", then press ok
(The size of the new PS file will be automatically correct based on what is in your clipboard)
5) press CTRL-V to paste the image
Do steps 1,2,3 and 5 for all the other images (do not do step 4 again) and paste them all into the new PS file you created
Now erase the parts of each layer to reveal the layer under it and you can develop a "clone image"
Let me know if you have questions.

The erase method is easy for new PS users. Thats why I posted it as the easiest way. Newbies can understand an eraser but not necessarily a layer mask.

Is that your son, or yoU? I'm impressed if you're only like 10 and pulling off stuff like that.
LOL! Why, thank you. They say the camera adds years and weight, but since I can never seem to get things right, it always works in reverse for me
I revised the message to indicate that, yes, those would be my sons.

Copy and paste the content as new layer into your master (final composite) image.
DOH! I always expect it to be complicated!

AHA! thanks - yes I do appreciate all your effort!

Think you can explain this or is it way to complicated to explain it here? I'm really lost when it comes to layers, I understand the concept I just can't grasp how to do it.
I'd love to understand how to do it with layer masks too, (whatever they are) because I really want to get the hang of this malarky.
I would really be grateful if each method can be explained
I'm a fairly quick learner once things are explained
It would be great for this thread to produce a list of the possibe and *best* ways to do exactly this trick

I've done this many times before, they're always interesting to look at and really fun to set up.
I'd love to say the photo below was a trick shot, but there are actually 8 copies of me in real life. No really. :D

I would have, if I even knew the rules of Baseball, or if I liked it. Football (soccer) is where it's at.
The hat is just to hide my hair. :D
