The carnival is coming next weekend and though I did get good photos from last years carnival (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33570) I would like to try and improve this year. Last year I had a 300D this year I have a 20D and a few new lenses too. (See link my equipment below)

Based on following 2 photos what are Your suggestions I should do differently this year?

EXIF info under the photos.

Should I use same lens for same situation? Use my EX550 flash? What do You think?

Use the flash :)
The composition is good but the harsh lighting adn shadows are somewhat distracting on your examples

I agree with Richard's comments.

Yeah thats also what I figured.

Which mode would be best to use in this situation? Av or Tv ?

I'd probably be tempted to stay in av mode assuming your shutter speed would not go higher than the sync speed (Or use high speed sync) and also dial in -1 stop of compensation on the flash.

But (and I'm sure you will) make sure that you have a bit of a practice before the carnival
