Am I the only one who is totally lost in using these files Pekka is so nice to post on this site?

I have photoshop, and a D60. But I don't have the know-how to make this thing go...

Can someone who has the time to educate a moron, please help me?

I understand that Pekka and most involved in the other threads are on a whole different level than I.

I need the cliff notes version...put files here..click this..and so on...

Thanks guys.

First, let me ask the "is the PC plugged in question?", :) are you shooting raw format with your D60?

If the answer is "no", then the LS method cannot be used.

If the answer is "yes", then when you convert from raw format, you should set the parameters on the converter you use to produce 16-bit TIFF in linear format. Usually, the linear format option is a checkbox somewhere.

The linear TIFF should be opened in Photoshop. Colour management settings should be set so that either the Adobe RGB profile is automatically assigned or the image is loaded with "no colour management". The easiest way is to set colour management:

Default RGB working: Adobe RGB
RGB policy: preserve embedded profile
Warnings for missing, mismatched, etc. profiles all on

The loaded image will look very dark. This is correct.

Choose one of the four LS D60 options:

CONVERTCONVERT+SHARPEN (medium)
CONVERT+SHARPEN (strong)
CONVERT+SHARPEN HIGH ISO (med)

Click execute, sit back and watch the magic happen.

Umm, well where to we copy the file to so that PS7 can use it in the first place ? Will these settings show up under filters ?

When you unzip Pekka's file, you will see that it has an extension .atn, so it is a Photoshop action file. You need to open the Actions palette (Window->Show Actions). Then click on the little triangle at the top right of the palette. This brings up a menu. Select Load Actions... Navigate to the folder where you unzipped the action file and select it. Then click Load. You will now have the action listed. It is probably best to uncheck "Button Mode" in the palette menu, BTW. To the left of the LS_D60_beta_2 title will be a little triangle which you may need to click to open up the action to reveal its various component parts. To run one of the options, select it (e.g. CONVERT) and click on the PLAY button at the bottom of the palette. The action will then be applied to the currently active Photoshop image window.

The easiest way to to use an image converter outside Photoshop. The Canon D60 comes with one, but better options are available: BreezeBrowser www.breezebrowser.com and YarcPlus www.pictureflow.com being the two most popular for PC's.

Roger,

Thanks for taking the time to give me and others the beginners version. I was not familiar with Photoshop actions, but I can see I soon will...

Thanks again.

Greetings-
I am also a rookie- and pulled out several of my remaining hairs trying to delineate the Raw workflow /actions/etc.

I've made a Raw workflow chart that Roger is proofing for me. I'll post it to a site for newbies to use. This way, we can save the hair of new D60 owners.

After choosing the wanted actions and pressing the play button the actions will apply.. Yes it does, but so I have to confirm every singel action? There are A LOT of OK buttons to confirm before the actions are really made. Is there a way to accept them all in just one click?

I had the same problem, but the answer is in one of the other threads. There are 2 check boxes on the left hand side of the actions. The first has a tick and this must be ticked if you want the action to run the next box looks like a small screen, if you can see it, it means that you will have to confirm the action. Simply click on the boxes to remove them and the actions will play with no user input.

Using Pekka's action is it possible to work on more than one linear TIFF file at a time? Is there a possibility to use it in a batch mode instead of loading each image, converting, saving, loading another one, etc.? If it is possible, what are the steps?

Thomas,

You can create a batch action. I would build something with the structure:

File>Open
call action "Convert..." from set "LS_D60_beta_2"
File>Save as PSD
File>Close

Run with File>Automate>Batch, speciify source and destination folders and check overwrite open and overwrite save options.
