Anyone had tried Tamron SP 28-105 f/2.8 on EOS digital ? How's the performance compare with others on that range ?

Thx,
Bangga

Bangga,

welcome to the forum :D

According to the little I've heard about this lens so far, it is a very disappointing lens that should better be avoided.

I use and love the Tamron 28-75/2.8 XR DI, which on the other hand is a great lens that can be wholeheartedly endorsed.

The only thing I could find in a hurry are the lens comparisons at http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/index.html

Best regards,
Andy

Thanks Andy, I'm interested in this lens is because it has a fixed & fast diafragma at f/2.8 but I never met someone use this lens. Is it because that dissapointed result ?

Thanks anyway

According to the reviews I've read, the image quality is not optimal (sharpness).

The 28-75/2.8 also is a very fast lens with a fixed f/2.8 aperture. It's only drawback (opposed to the 28-105) is the shorter reach. Its advantage is image quality that is often compared with the Canon 24-70/2.8 L.

I have the lens and use it very often. It is very sharp (when viewing pictures at 100% crop) from f/3.5 onward. Some forum users have samples that are tack sharp wide open.

Best regards,
Andy

i just got one used from KEH and am extremely disappointed. i was initially excited about the constant 2.8, but in even sunny conditions the AF is very slow and "searches" way more than i can tolerate. the zoom ring is also very tight. i was hoping this would be a good all-in-one lens for weddings, but the search continues.

The 28-75 is on my 20D most of the time. The quality of the photos is great, the AF does hunt at times, this occurs mostly in low light situations. The only thing I don't like about this lens is it lack of reach.
