Thought this would be better suited here, I really like the whispy effect of the river against the rocks.

The BW conversion process went well, too. Can't wait to get my RGND to do some real sunsets, though, without having to exposure blend the sky

Maybe its just one of those shots that appeal to just me...the sharpness and the softness of the water versus the stone is what I was going for. May look a bit too sharp, though I like it that way..anyone else?

Good composition, yes. But I find the tonal range on this exquisite and very pleasing / relaxing on the eye. Excellent work.

I think the sharpness of the stone is perfect, the only thing I don't particularly like is after staring at it for a while everything tends to blend together. There isn't a whole lot of contrast, but its a minor detail, its a great shot in general.

-edit-> I think I take that back, I keep going back and looking at it, but I can't get everything to blend together like before. *shrugs*

Thanks all, I originally put it in nature and landscapes but it was buried in 10 minutes with 0 replies and I was wondering if it was truly that bad or I hadn't communicated the message effectively enough :(

I'm glad people like it and see what I see, and I also agree with you D- I keep looking back at it. At first you're assailed by the sharp detail in the stone and drawn up to the contrasting dark clouds before shifting down and becoming mesmerized in the whisping smokey look of the river.

I composed it deliberately to flow throughout your eye like a nautilus shell. Starting in the lower left all the way up, then down again and around... into the center to suck in to the middle.

I studied Marc Adamus' prints and found this was what he did to create the "depth" of an image and master composition. Taking leading lines a step further and making the lines into curves.

It's really quite fun to do and the composition is a lot better when you think about it this way, depending on the shot of course.

Location is "The Rocks'' in fort smith, northwest territories, canada, for all interested
