Hi all,

Just another couple of waves from the weekend. Sun was causing me a few hassles with the whitewash being blown out and the wave underexposed. Leaves me with a few ideas for next time though. C&C welcome.

How do you get a shot like this? It it on a boat? High powered zoom? Very nice!

I am curious about this as well. Underwater housing maybe?

Nice shots...I always love these surfer shots.

The SPL Housing listed in his sig is prob the answer.

Where were these taken at?

Thanks guys,

Shots were at 10mm with an SPL underwater housing. Adds a little bit of excitment as most of these waves are landing right on you when shooting these shots. Gets the heart pumping that's for sure.

Photos were taken at a reef in Sydney, Australia.

Hey jeff,
Looks like a sweet day out there! Never been to Sydney but is that the left that runs dry off the take off?

I wouldn't worry about blown wash. Its white f**k it. Just shoot manual and RAW and pull what you can out of the shadows.

Trust me I know it is easier said than done but get closer and shoot up. I was working on getting as close as I could this last summer and started learning to point the housing up.

To those that are wondering, these waves are large and among the most powerful to swim in.

Nice Shots,
you have to have some more ya?

Thanks Mike/Roy,

I have plenty more, this wave doesn't go dry but it goes from super deep water, to water about a metre deep, then deep again straight after it breaks so it's really hard to stay in close. Shooting fisheye I usually try to sit only 4ft or so from the rider but it was near impossible to stay in position. There were boils that keep pushing me off the reef that the wave was breaking on. I was either getting pushed out into the channel or into the line-up so it was hard to position myself properly.

I'll try and post a picture of the left that goes dry. I've got one that shows the reef pretty well :P

I've deleted most of my photos (my hard-drive was getting full and I'm never going to use any of them for anything) but here are a couple of recent ones. One is from the same day, the second is from about 2-3 weeks ago which is the left that sucks dry that you may be thinking about.
