Nice shot Graham, I have a shot just like that too but it was definitely busy on the day I took mine there were people all over the place.

Breaks my heart to see that just sitting there. That gorgeous flying machine belongs in the upper atmosphere.

Beautiful pic tho.

Next time you go have a look at the underside of the undercarriage doors they have been signed by all the crews that have flown/worked on her over the years.

ok - just been reading and this is permanent at duxford (i must pay a visit!)

question: how did they transport this plane to duxford? did they fly the plane? or disassembled it? or in a bigger transport plane?

Right off hand, I don't really know. However, the SR-71 was frequently based at RAF Mildenhall over the years, so it's very likely they flew the plane there.

Very cool indeed. It's not even about what it can/could do, but when it could do it!
This thing was Soooooooo far ahead of it's time, it's still never been matched in so many aspects, and here we are over 40 years later!

It's even more ahead of its time than the original 1D! :)

Yes, I recall reading the Skunk Works book and thinking the very same thing.

The Blackbird at Duxford was bought over by ship from the USA, this one did operate from Mildenhall on a few occasions during its service life.

nice shot, though I would have probably taken it in multiple exposure to get a good blend of all of them and then sandwiched them in PP.

Nice shot....

While in the service I flew on C-130's and we would always be in Mildenhall, UK and we would park across from the SR hangers and watch them fire up and taxi out...
