So now I need to come up with a name (ugh a freaking arduous task). Currently I do nightclub photography and want to expand into doing real estate, event photography (corporate functions, outdoor festivals, etc), automotive, and potentially get into weddings (actually really want to do proposal shoots). Ifeel my photo style is more edgy, but at the same time filled with more emotion.

I think the 'use your name' thing is great and all, but its a bit overplayed and isn't really remembered unless you start making it big in your area. My names Jordan Philip Egert, so don't know if I can use a partial amount of that in the name.

Do photographers often have multiple names depending on the type of stuff they shoot? I came up with "Click Click Shoot" for the all around stuff, and then "Moments of Passion" for weddings/quincineras/proposals/etc.

Any input? I think Click Click Shoot is pretty clever, but I don't know if its to much on the kiddy side of things to be taken seriously.

Moments of Passion sounds a bit "Adult" to me. I wouldn't think of using that name to capture images of my young daughters coming of age party or my daughters wedding if I'm paying for it.

I'd use your name for the general business name. Having multiple business names is a sure way to confuse the heck out of people. That and photography is a very personal business. People typically hire a photographer, not a company (or that's the client base you should be after). Kind of like your dentist, would you rather go to Tooth Masters or John Smith?

You can always use different websites/domain names for the different aspects of your photography while using your name for the actual business name. This is what I do. I use my name, and then have a different and easier to remember website for my sports photography (sdsportspics.com). I also use a shortened version of my name for my main website address (cecilphoto.com), as I think derekcecilphotography.com is a bit much for the average person to remember and type out.

Oh, and welcome to POTN!!!

Ha i thought the same thing. It sounds too much like an erotic novel of some sort :)

Tooth Masters! LOL!

I thought it was pretty catchy. Maybe I should trademark it? :p

EDIT: someone already beat me to it, there's a Tooth Masters Studio in Virginia and a Gold Tooth Masters in Oakland, CA...

I don't believe in the name as business name concept... if you don't have a name that people can remember immediately - you've lost the business. What if your name was difficult to spell out ?
Short and catchy and to the point that describes your work.
I've just registered mine after much insight into marketing and the names that people remember the most are those with a hard 'K' sound in the name... like the k in spark !
So i took that and tried to implement that with mine .. TORQUING MEDIA still got the k sound and cause i photograph cars & motorsports mostly i used it as it describes also mostly what i do. Torque as in power... so i used it as my byline as well "Powerful Photography" so that should not limit me to motorsports.

I hope this can guide you ..

Click Click Shoot sounds a bit cheap to me (no offense, it's just a personal subjective feeling).

Your name is great, if you shorten it it makes J.P.Eg. :D You were born to be a photographer!
