League 2 is now full!!!!

It is getting closer and closer to the 2009-2010 NFL season which means.....

FANTASY FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!

Last year was our second year with a POTN league. You can read about our year here. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=521466)

So who is up for FFL this year?

What's new?

Nothing that I can think of. I am testing the Yahoo system this year in another league. If it turns out to be as good as Tom thinks it is, we might consider it for next year. ;)

What is the same?

We will still be using NFL.com's site for our league. It is free to everyone and is quite a good site. We need 12 teams total for each league. Once we reach 12 we can start a second league if there is enough interest.

What do I do if I want to play?

Simply tell us here or send me a PM. I will keep a list of all interested parties in this post. I will need your name (POTN name is fine) and team name once you sign up as well as an email address to send out the invites. Once we have 12 we will set up our league, with the draft date and time. I know that many from last year are interested in playing again this year. I feel that it is fair to allow those people to have the first shot at joining the first league.

Can we talk smack?

Only if you can back it up!

The Lions will suck!, Brett Favre will be a Viking and they will go 8-8 and miss the playoffs, and the Colts will be bad, not terrible, but bad for the first time since Peyton's rookie year.

ZGMF-X20A
16th of July 2009 (Thu), 12:53
I'd say the lions would improve and might get a 1 win this year :D
Titans will no longer have that many winning streak...

I don't know who will come in after this year. There is some interest in Shanahan and Cowher, but they're both long shots, IMO. I know that we have to come up short this year to finally toss the coach we have though. My bet is that our secondary will look terrible and our passing game will be sketchy. The pass rush and running game will be good, but in the end the coach(es) will get the axe.

The only thing I can guarantee is high ticket prices this year!

There are some group tickets in Charlotte for the MNF game in Big D this year. the prices were pretty reasonable considering, but I bet the ticket prices down there are just ridiculous!

AngryCorgi

I'd rather do it earlier. It gives players a chance to get hurt, commit crimes, cheat on their wives and use banned substances while they are already on your roster.

Seriously, though, later is okay with me... ;)

Seeing as they have @Pats, Saints, and @Dolphins in their first five, I wouldn't place any bets on it...then again, stranger things have happened. Maybe TO will go nuts on the Pats, but he sure didn't when we played them (and that was at our house).

Nope. Just a fun name I chose. (My oldest son plays both soccer and football, and my youngest will be playing both for the first time this fall... and I always tease them.)

I thought they would find the name fun. (Not to mention, I'm as American as one can be. Born in Arizona on an AF Base, raised in the hills of Denver and then Chicago.) I was a HUGE Bears fan back when Walter was playing. I still have the Chicago Shuffle Record!

Yes Kevin, we still need more for League 2. I'll put you down.

The league is free. It is through NFL.com. You just have to create an account and register for the league once I send out the invites. We do a live draft at a time that most agree on. We will determine that once we fill all the spots for the leagues.

And if you are NOT going to be there, make sure your ranking list is up-to-date as to what you want. Sometimes suspended, retired, or dead players wind up on that list because rankings often do not get updated by the system once you sign up, unless you change it yourself.

If you don't pay attention, you might be starting a PUP-lister or two the first week as well. You have to stay on your toes in in the FFL, gentlemen. ;)

I was just thinking of mounting a lens to a piece of wood and having a small brass plate engraved, but if you've got the talent to pull of the heisman idea, I'd be all for it, that sounds pretty cool... There is just no way I could pull that off!

It's really not that difficult. They make trophies with resin-based figures that can be modified (cut-out ball, super-glue in 1/6th scale camera/lens) and the trophies are pretty inexpensive.

I think the big, white lens in hand is the way to go. That's a common sight on the sidelines at a game. Maybe even the camera around his neck.

Maybe "POTN" lettering on the helmet ?

thanks for stepping up !

Again, Corgi, if you can do it, Go for it! I am not a modeler of that small detail. I used to build and fly RC Airplanes, and will again after the boys are off to college, but I don't think I'd do a good job on something that small...

LOVE your ideas! For what it's worth, I'd chip in a few dollars to cover the costs, and I imagine most of us would.

I'll order the pieces today and have a go at it this next week. I'll post results and see if you guys think it will work.

I totally agree about the helmet needing a POTN reference. A friend of mine has an engraving tool that should have no problem with the resin. I'll see what is possible with engraving when it gets here and I can examine how soft/brittle the resin on the statue is. BTW, that is a bobble-head figure...he'll need an IS lens! ;)

Sad news for the Eagles (and the NFL) tonight. Thanks for the great years JJ.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-obit-johnson&prov=ap&type=lgns

I was shocked that none of the major websites (ESPN, SI, and SN) I use for sports updates had this story as the front-page feature when it was announced. I even commented on it on SportingNews, saying that the sites should all be ashamed of themselves for flooding the front NFL page with news about how Reggie "I-can't-perform-at-the-pro-level" Bush dumped that human-petri-dish he was with. The SN mods took my comment down quickly, but amazingly were still not shamed into covering real news and the notification still hasn't made it to the NFL front page on any of those sites. Even the NFL network let me down.

I'll be honest...I am not an Eagle fan (duh!), but I have the utmost respect for what Johnson has been able to accomplish with the Eagles' D. Despite regular losses at defensive positions (some of them leader-type players), he had that defense playing 100% all the time. A lot of people claim that the Steelers' D has been better of late, but I don't buy it. The schemes that Johnson used were the most consistently effective, and he was always adding wrinkles to his gameplan.

The limiting factor for success has been (IMO) the Eagles' handling of players' contracts and the occasional turn-over/instability. There is no doubt that the Eagles' HC and DC have been among the best in the business over the past decade.

I hope Johnson's family finds peace and comfort in the wake of this loss. IMO, this is a far greater loss the the NFL community than any other offseason event that has occurred.

RIP!

Oh yeah, and McNabb sucks...

He is a solid player and probably one of the most consistent tacklers I saw last year. On the other hand, I am not sure how big of a hit the loss will really be. I can't see one hurt MLB being the difference in more than maybe 1 game. The biggest hit may be the communication/leadership loss from his position, but still I think you guys can fill in fine.

With the offense the iggles will be fielding, I don't think you'll have to worry very often about a one-player-variance on the defense - the games shouldn't be that close very often.

AngryCorgi

Most of the injuries so far have been stupid little non-contact injuries. I think the Bradley injury, though, was being reported as an after-the-tackle injury from other players making secondary contact and twisting his knee under a pile. Full-contact is one thing, but I have never seen tackle piles form in training camp drills or even team scrimmages. I would bet that its not a pre-season behavior that is endorsed even by Reid's staff either.

Really no contact, he went to make a tackle and bounced off (didn't twist anything at all) of Reggie Brown when going to make a tackle. He blew the knee before the contact. Freak injury.

Looks like he's throwing darts or just isn't very bright. He's citing the Albert Haynesworth (is his knee going to hold up and will he bother to be competitive with all that $$$$$$$$?) acquisition as the main reason why the team that finished last in the NFC East will now finish 2nd. and 5th overall in the NFC. I also don't buy the Falcons #3 billing, the Vikings #2 billing (with either Gus Frerotte or Tarvaris with a strained MCL, take your pick), or the idea that Seattle will win the West. Then he puts the Eagles at #12 on his list and we all know he's hitting the pipe.

I know this much...in a non-contract year (2006), I remember the 'pokes taking Drew Bledsoe into Tennessee and still plowing through Haynesworth like he was a pinata. In fact that was the game where he got ejected for stepping on Andre's head after being beaten repeatedly.

He knows his stuff and is much more of an "insider" than a "ranker".

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. He supposedly is plugged in, but whether or not he knows how to use that information.....

He's picking the teams that need absolutely everything to fall into place to do as well as he has them ranked. Things just don't happen like that in the NFL. Not for a whole season anyways.

That was my initial thinking with the Viking pick. I'm not going to be shocked when the federal courts turn that silly williams ruing on its head, creating some temporary holes that may be difficult to overcome in the short term. That's what has me miffed with the iggles being so far down, when they have incredible depth at most positions.

I know for Dallas to succeed, a lot has to happen. First, Austin has to at least get 50% time on the other side of Roy - he's the only guy with the speed to burn good DBs, but his health is up-and-down. Second, the O-line can't afford a single injury! They are shallow at all positions on the O-line (except maybe center) and an injury would make a decent (not great) O-line quickly turn into an O-line with a huge hole. Good pass-rushers (something in abundance in the NFC East) would have a field day and you'd see teams blitzing 40% of the time. Third, Martellus Bennett has to pull his head out and wake up. The kid is very talented, but very, very immature. If he does his job, the two-TE set will FINALLY be a successful scheme in Dallas. Finally, our DBs have got to take the next step. Jenkins or Scandrick are the most likely candidates to win the #2 CB slot, but neither has been completely consistent. Scandrick appears to be the one with the better instincts, but Jenkins is more athletic. I have no clue who is going to start as the FS, though. That one is a total toss-up.

There just seems to be too much unresolved at this point to suggest we'd even compete for a wild card spot, so I don't think Dallas should be anywhere close to the top 10 on the NFC list.
