For the first time in over 5 years, I finally have had a paid model that did not show up, without an explanation (at least so far). I suspected it would happen eventually, but I was all hyped for this one as it was my first outdoor model shoot of the year and the weather was PERFECT.
I expect TFCD/TFP, test (meaning free) models to occasionally not ahow up after setting a date, (like about 1 in 3); but I have never had a model I was paying for not show up. Very depressing.
Had to get it out of my system.
Thanks.

No show and no call to tell you why is pretty rude.
Probably not worth the hassle or the negative reputation you'd amass, but if you had anything in writing to say she'd show you could make life difficult for her with regard to covering any costs you were out.

Luckily I am only out some Time, Opportunity, and a touch of interest on money I would not have spend YET (but would have spent soon anyway).
While I had purchased 3 new 2GB cards and a portable storage drive/reader. I would have bought them anyway before my next shoot away from my studio. So nuetral on that one as far as I am concerned.
It was the opportunity I missed the most, with the time I might have used doing something else that I also miss. Hard to price those two.
I still grant the possibility that something unforseen happened, so unless I find out otherwise I will presume it was something that came up while she was out of contact. such as perhaps her car broke down. Or a major highway was blocked for way too many hours. Not everyone has access to a cell phone (like me for instance - I hate the things) So until I find out I will also avoid any regrettable comments I might make which makes mention of the models name.
Just wish I had known early enough to do some alternative plans.

DON't mention models name. it will only promote model anyways.
you're being very nice about the situation. but as you said you came out with 3 new 2gb cards. :) now that's something to smile about.

I disagree... Mentioning the model's name will prevent anyone else in the POTN forums from using this model and getting stiffed in the same way. What if the model had asked for payment in advance before pulling this?

I have never had a model ask for payment in advance of showing up, I have had one model to date ask for and expect partial payment upon showing up. No problem with that given she was a known professional model. And I have paid for travel for a model up front, but she still doesn't know how much the ticket cost, she was just given reservations (time/airports) - my travel agent is very good at providing two iternaries, one for me, one for model.
If a model asked me for money in advance of her showing up (unless I already knew her real well (in person or by reputation)), I would be highly unlikely to schedule a date for the photo session.
And I always give the models part in cash and part by check. I give them enough in cash to cover their expenses and make some profit and then I give them the rest in check at the end of the session so I have proof I paid them some money via them cashing the check. Thus they know they haven't taken a hit from me (if I had given them just a check and it bounced) and I don't have to worry about them claiming I never paid them for the session. And then I list the amount of compensation (including any meals I bought) on the model release.
Maybe I will have gotten a message by the time I get home today, although if she otherwise stayed on her planned schedule as I understood it, she may not be able to get back to me until Thursday evening if something weird happened.

Model called,
She was in car accident, Daughter got hurt (ended up with broken nose). She had to go to hospital and cell phone was left in car (understandable given the circumstances)
She is rescheduling for Weds evening or Thursday (weds depends on her sched. Thursday on mine).
This is why I don't give out model's names when I think bad about them.
Still my up til now perfect track record has been broken and the weather does not look as good for Weds/Thurs as it was this Sunday.
Such is life.
I always like the line that God must have a sense of humor.
